What are the effects of table grapes on the composition of red blood cell membranes?
The question was answered with a study by the team of researchers belonging to the laboratory of Nutritional Biochemistry of the IRCCS “Saverio de Bellis”, in collaboration with the Research Center for Viticulture and Enology (CREA) of Turi.
Methods and results
For this study it was decided to use the Autumn Royal variety table grape due to its high content of polyphenols and its antioxidant properties.
During the study? for 21 days? 40 subjects were divided into two groups: the control group and the study group. People belonging to the second group ate daily 5g of table grapes for every kilo of body weight. All analyzes were performed at the beginning and at the end of the "treatment".
Conclusion
It emerged that the intake of table grapes influences the levels of circulating miRNA in healthy subjects; in particular miRNAs linked to pathways involved in countering the development of cancer, including gastrointestinal cancers.
